Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate
Course Overview
This course develops the knowledge, understanding and practical competence needed to work effectively in adult social care. It focuses on the role of the care worker and supports learners in building person-centred, values-driven practice, safe and effective working approaches, and the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected in frontline adult social care roles.
Entry Criteria
- Applicants must be aged 16 or over.
- Learners are expected to be working, or preparing to work, in an adult social care role.
- There are no additional formal entry requirements, prior qualifications or minimum levels of prior attainment required.
- An initial assessment should be completed before enrolment to confirm readiness and identify any support needs.
- Where applicable, employer induction and mandatory training should be completed before or alongside the qualification.

Assessment Methods
Assessment combines a theory-and-practice portfolio with direct observation of practical competence. Direct observation in the learner’s normal work environment is the main source of evidence for skills-based learning outcomes.

- Essays and assignments

- Expert witness testimony where appropriate
Delivery & Grading
- Classroom, e-learning or blended delivery may be used, but required direct observation must take place face to face in the learner’s normal work environment.
- Assessment is internally assessed and moderated, with external quality assurance of assessment decisions.
Progression Opportunities
The qualification supports progression into employment and further occupational development in adult social care, including progression to Level 3 or Level 4 Adult Care study.
